Demolition Derby Rules

 

New England Championship Demolition Derby
Woodbooger Demolition Derby

The rules and regulations for this event have been set for the following reasons:

    1. To allow the rookie or novice demo driver have as much chance to win as the experienced driver.
    2. To make this fun sport affordable to everyone. The rules are also set to save on expensive parts, set up time and miles of welding wire.
    3. By following these rules at the end of the derby most of these cars will be ruined.


This event is to find the best Demolition Derby Driver in New England. This is not a competition to see who can build the toughest car. This is a stock derby unless otherwise specified.

So let’s have fun. It’s up to you and your crew if this derby is going to continue growing!

The entry fee to drive in the demo derby is $150.00. If you are leaving your car the entry fee is $50.00. The pit pass fee is $15.00 per person.

 

6-8 Cylinder Cars

This Derby will consist of heats of 6-8 cylinder cars. All heat races will qualify 4 drivers for the feature. The last 3 cars moving and running will receive a trophy. The fourth place car will be the "Lucky Dog" and be eligible to compete in the feature. This is subject to change the day of the event.

Prize money for 6-8 cylinder feature:
First Place: Trophy and $5,000.00
Second Place: Trophy and $2,000.00
Third Place: Trophy and $1,000.00

Please note these vehicles will be re-inspected after the derby.

Prize money for 4 cylinder:
First Place: Trophy and $1,250.00
Second Place: Trophy and $500.00
Third Place: Trophy and $250.00

Prize money for the modified derby:
First Place: Trophy and $2,500.00

 

SAFETY RULES

  1. You must have a full face helmet, DOT approved.
  2. You must have a working seatbelt.
  3. You must wear long pants, no shorts.
  4. Driver door must be painted FLOURESCENT GREEN.
  5. All vehicles must have a small working fire extinguisher with in drivers reach, set into the upholstery of the passenger seat.
  6.  

DRIVING RULES

 

  1. You must make contact every 60 seconds. You must give not receive.
  2. Do not hit the drivers’ door. If you see green do not hit it.
  3. Excessive smoking will be disqualified.
  4. Sandbaggers will be disqualified.
  5. Red Flag means stop, someone is hurt or there is a fire. Pay attention.
  6. The last car to make a hit will be deemed the winner. Officials’ decision is final.

 

4-6-8 CYLINDER CAR PREPARATION

  1. Absolutely no welding is allowed anywhere on your car, no matter how small, unless otherwise noted below. You will be sent home.
  2. Any passenger car or mini-van, EXCEPT for Chrysler Imperials. Pre-derbied cars are acceptable as long as they are not re-enforced or welded.
  3. Remove all glass including the windshield. Doors must be clean and free of glass.
  4. Remove all lights and molding or anything that can be knocked loose onto the track.
  5. Engines, transmissions and rear ends must be the same make as the car.
  6. Fuel tank may be moved inside of the car, forward of the rear wheels and behind the front seat. Fuel tank must be marine type plastic or metal, six (6) gallon maximum. Fuel tank must be secure and deemed safe by the inspectors. You must cover the fuel tank.
  7. Battery may be moved to passenger side front floor and must be covered with a rubber mat.
  8. All anti-freeze must be removed, water only in radiator.
  9. Rear differential may be locked or welded for posi-traction.
  10. Drivers’ door (only) may be welded with a maximum 12 inches on each seam (fender, backside and bottom).You may install a maximum 3 inch pipe or tube behind the driver seat from side to side for safety reasons only. Maximum 6 inch square plates at each end, this may be welded in.
  11. Remaining doors must be open for inspection and may be chained or wired shut after inspection.
  12. Hood and trunk may be chained or wired shut in four places only after inspection. Wire must be #9 gauge maximum, two (2) strands per hole. Hood and trunk may be wired or chained around through bumpers in two (2) of these holes.
  13. Motor mounts and transmission mounts may be wired or chained only.
  14. Tires must be four (4) ply only with tubes if you choose. “4 ply” writing on the tire must be legible. No double tires. Air filled only.
  15. No cutting of bumpers. No cutting of bumpers.
  16. Fender wells may be cut for clearance; however, they may not be welded, rolled or re-attached for strength.
  17. Shifting linkage may be hooked up direct to the transmission. Shifter handle must be safe.
  18. All transmission lines must be disconnected from the radiator to prevent oil spills. A transmission cooler may be installed under the hood or the lines must be looped.
  19. Electrical system hot wires may be installed.
  20. Air cleaner must be in place.
  21. There must be must be (2) 6” X 6” openings in the hood. One on either side for fire department access.
  22. Exhaust may be exited through the hood.
  23. All body mounts must be original and cannot be repaired or altered in any way.
